Roll-Kraft produces new tube & pipe floating flange roll video
Roll-Kraft, a leading provider of tooling to the tube and pipe industry, has added a video to the company website that features floating flange rolls. The new video shows tube and pipe customers how they can utilize these rolls to produce tube and pipe that is free of any unwanted marks.
Normally, roll marks appear as a result of the speed difference between the throat diameter (which is the smallest diameter of the roll and also the drive point) and the outer flange rolls within a given pass on the mill. During production, the surface speed at the throat area of the roll is lower than the surface speed at the largest diameter, which causes the roll to leave marks on the end product.
Floating flange rolls are designed in several pieces. As they are positioned on the stand, the center piece is keyed so that it turns at the speed of the mill. The two outside pieces are able to spin freely, allowing them to turn at the speed of the material being formed as it moves through the mill. Since the material and outside rolls are now spinning at the same speed, roll marks are eliminated. This is a much-improved process when marks on the product are a concern. The floating flange roll video demonstrates this process very clearly.
Roll-Kraft has been designing floating flange rolls for over 30 years. These rolls are custom designed to meet the specifications for each application, and Roll-Kraft stands behind them with a 100% performance guarantee, which also applies to other Roll-Kraft products.
